「日本語は、日本での最大公約数に向けて洗練されてきた」って英語でなんて言うの？

様々な考え方の間の共通点をよく「common denominator」か「lowest common denominator」と言います。数理学での意味は最大公約数（greatest common divisor）と違いますのでそれだけご注意ください。

文章を英訳すると「Japanese has been refined to fit the national common denominator」になります。「洗練されてきた」を「has been refined」と訳し、「日本での最大公約数」は 「national common denominator」（国の共通する点）と訳します。より明確にしたければnational linguistic common denominator（国内の言語的に共通される点）とも言えますが三つの形容詞の連鎖は概してお控えした方が良いです。

Lowest common denominatorを使用する表現も提供いたします。「In Japan, the logic of the lowest common denominator has guided the refinement of the Japanese language」（日本で、最低限の共通点の理念が日本語の洗練を導いてきました）。
