became newsは直訳ですが、2番目のmade the newsの方が自然な言い方だと思います。普通にOOの前に、that fact thatを使っています。

例文：The fact that the alpha monkey on Takasaki Mountain is now a female made the news. Even in the monkey kingdom, females are advancing.
