Junさん、こんばんは。ご質問ありがとうございます。 一例をご紹介させていただきますね。 《英訳例》 I can read and write in English, but I can't speak it very well.→英語を読み書きすることはできるが、うまく話すことができない。 I can read and write in English→英語で読み書きすることはできるが read English→英語を読む write in English→英語で書く I can't speak it very well→それ(英語)をあまりうまく話すことができない speak it→それ(英語)を話す 《語句の確認》 【英辞郎】 read 【他動】〔文字などを〕読む、〔書かれている内容を〕読み取る write 【自動】文字[言葉・記号]を書く speak 【他動】〔意見・考えなど〕~を話す ★ write write in English は「英語で書く」という意味です。 「~を書く」は write ~ と言います。「~」には名詞が入ります。 《例》 write a letter→手紙を書く write a song→曲を書く write a song in English→英語で曲を書く お力になれば幸いです。 ありがとうございました。

*-'I can read and write in English but I cannot speak very well.'- means : your reading and writing skills are very good but you have difficulty in speaking English
I can read and write in English but I cannot speak very well.' これは、あなたの読み書きのスキルはとても良いけど、英語を話すことはあなたにとって難しいことを意味します。

「英語を読み書きすることはできるがあまりしゃべれない」は英語で以下のように言う事ができます。 1)I can do both writing and reading English, but I am not good at speaking it yet. 助動詞は「できる」のCanを使います。 BUT(でも)を使って2文をつなげて、「○○だが~である」の形にします。 「話す事は出来ない」の部分ですが、「できる・出来ない」のCanを使ってももちろんいいんですが、Canの他にも「まだ話すのは得意じゃない」というように、Be good at ~yet を使う事も出来ます。 個人的にはCan'tを使うより、「まだ得意ではない」の方が多いと思います。負けず嫌いですから。 2)I can do both writing and reading English but speaking is not so much. 「Not so much=それほどでもない」で文章を終わる事は多々あります。 Speaking is not so much、は「話す事はそれほどでもない」という意味です。 3)I can do English grammar but I can only speak English a little bit. I hope it helps :)

  • I am great at all aspects of English except speaking.

  • My reading and writing skills in English are far better than my speaking ability.

    play icon

  • Though my reading and writing in English is adequate, my speaking ability is sadly lacking.

    play icon

Lacking (adjective) = Missing something/inadequate To lack (verb). "I lack the ability to speak English."
Lackingは形容詞で、何かが足りない状況を指します。 To lack は動詞で、例えば「英語を喋る能力が足りない」というように使えます。

These are ways to tell someone you can read and write in English well but can’t speak very good. Ex: - “I am better at reading and writing in English. Speaking is a bit harder for me.” -“I can’t speak English very well, but I can read and write good!”
「英語を読み書きすることはできるがあまりしゃべれない」の言い方です。 例: - “I am better at reading and writing in English. Speaking is a bit harder for me.” (英語の読み書きはまだできます。話すのが苦手です) -“I can’t speak English very well, but I can read and write good!”(英語を話すのは苦手ですが、読み書きはできます)

'Better' - When you can do something better than something else All three answers can be used because they all mean the same thing- that you are better at reading and writing English than you are at speaking it. I hope this helps :)
“Better”は何かを他よりも良くこなすことができることです。これら3つの回答はあなたが英語を読み書きすることの方が話すことより得意という全て同じ意味です。ご参考にしていただければ幸いです。

In this case, you can start by stating what your weakness is, so it is clear what you are not really good at. Then you may add what you are good at, this may bring reassurance that you have a foundation in your knowledge of the language.
この場合、自分の弱みを言うところから始めることができます。そのあとで、自分の強み、この場合その言語に対する理解が十分にあるというところで落ち着かせるのが良いでしょう。

  • English speaking is not my forte, but writing and reading are.

    play icon

If you want to convey that your writing and reading skills are fine without having to express this fully, you can focus on what you can't do, instead of what you can. By saying that you are only "lacking" this one part of English ability, it makes it clear that you can do everything else. "Forte" is something you are good at. Swimming/violin can also be your fortes.
簡潔に言いたいなら、できないことに焦点を当てます。「スピーキングだけ苦手」と言えば、「それ以外のことはできる」と伝わります。 "forte" は「得意なこと」をいいます。「水泳/バイオリンが "forte" だ」という人もいるでしょう。
