中ほどより前/後ろのほうって英語でなんて言うの？

大勢の人の列に並んでいるときの言い方で中ほどより少し前にいるとか後ろにいるとか言いたいのですが。。どういえばいいでしょうか？

「彼は列の真ん中よりちょっと前に立っています」
just before the middle で「真ん中よりちょっと前」
line-up で「人の列」

ーThat guy standing towards the back of the line-up is really tall.
「列の後ろの方に立っているあの男性はすごく背が高い」
towards the back で「後ろの方」
