上記のような言い方ができます。「〜か何か」は or something という表現をとてもよく使います。anything を使っても良いです。
ちなみにバターとかジャムとか、パンに塗って食べるものを spread と言います。spread は「塗る」という意味の動詞と「（パン等に）塗るもの」という意味の名詞の意味があります。
