「② Are you going anywhere over New Year?」

  • What are your plans for New Year's day?

The adverb 'usually' has been used in the first question to mean generally every New Year's day. It means what he/she did on the previous New Year's days. Most people make it almost traditional to do the same things on New Year's day year after year. So, you may ask: How do you usually spend New Year's day? or What do you normally do on New Year's day? Some people have different plans for each New Year's day. In this case, what he/she did on the previous New Year's days may not be exactly what he/she will do on the next New Year's day. So, you may ask: What are your plans for New Year's day? What are you planning to do on New Year's day?
新年の過ごし方を恒例化する人が多いので ”How do you usually spend New Year's day?” ”What do you normally do on New Year's day?” もし次の新年に何をするのか聞きたい場合は ”What are your plans for New Year's day?” ”What are you planning to do on New Year's day?”

When talking to Westerners or specifically people from America, it is appropriate to ask them regarding their New Year's celebration the following question: "How was your New Year's celebration, what did you do?" In America, most people celebrate the New Year gathering around family and friends. They all wait until midnight 0:00 when the New Year has finally arrived. It is customary to pop open a bottle of champagne and to pour each person a glass and each person will put their glass together and say "Happy New Year!". After the New Year, it is customary for each person to write a list containing various things they would like to change or to do during the new year. This list is known as a "New Year's resolution". New Year's celebration is often shortened as just "New Year's". For example, "What did you do for New Year's","--I spent time with family."
"How was your New Year's celebration, what did you do?" . New Year's celebration は、 "New Year's"と短く言われています。 例: "What did you do for New Year's","--I spent time with family."

Not everyone celebrates New Year's day nor is it celebrated at the same time in each country. Hence, a good question is to ask do you celebrate the New Year? If so, endeavor to find out details about traditions peculiar to that individual. Another way of asking if someone celebrates New Year's day is to use the personal pronoun YOUR. What are your New Year's plans?
したがって、do you celebrate the New Year?(お正月をお祝いしますか?) What are your New Year's plans?(お正月の予定は何ですか?)
