My boss is out for a business trip.

is going out for lunch He/ She is out to lunch. Seems like he is out to lunch at the moment.

In the UK, it is usually enough to say that your boss is unavailable. Some bosses would ask that no details be given about where they are or what they are doing as that is unnecessary information and may be a 'breach of privacy' in some cases. We not usually 'eat' lunch or 'drink' liquids. We 'have' lunch and 'have' beverages. 1. Your boss is having his lunch break. He may, or may not be in the building. 2. Your boss is 'out of the office' having lunch. He is out of the building. 3. Your boss is out of the building around lunchtime. He may or may not be having lunch, but that would be the assumption.
1. Your boss is having his lunch break. . 2. Your boss is 'out of the office' having lunch. 3. Your boss is out of the building around lunchtime.

  • He/She is out to lunch, Can I take a message or would you like to call back?

"He/She is not currently available, Would you like to leave a message?" In this sentence you are being safe not to give too much information as to where your boss is even though you know. Some bosses dont like for people that are calling them to know where they are so use this sentence you are being polite but discrete. "He/She is out to lunch, Can I take a message or would you like to call back?" In this sentence you are more open with the person you are calling and letting them know that your boss is out to lunch. This sentence is used more often with people you know your boss likes or doesnt have a problem with them knowing where he/she is.
【例】 "He/She is not currently available, Would you like to leave a message?" 【例】 "He/She is out to lunch, Can I take a message or would you like to call back?"

  • My boss is unavailable!

  • My boss has a lunch engagement!

"My boss is out to lunch!" This is to let the person know that your boss is not in the office or in the building. "My boss is unavailable!" If you do not want to give too many details of your boss' whereabouts, then you can just say he is unavailable. "My boss had a lunch engagement!" The word engagement or appointment can be used as well.
"My boss is out to lunch!" "My boss is unavailable!"( 上司は今取り込み中です。) "My boss has a lunch engagement!"(上司は昼食会に参加しています。)
