「なぜ？」「理解できない」という場合は
I don't understand --- まはた I don't get -- という言い方が一般的かと
思います。
I don't get it. 「理解できない」
言い方によっては、「はぁ？なにそれ？」という意味にもなります。
例文
I don't understand why this is so popular. It doesn't make any sense.
なぜこれがそんなに人気なのかわからない。意味がわからない。
Why on Earth....! This expression is used to add stress to a dramatic question which expresses your surprise about something.
"Why on Earth are these apples so expensive? they should be half this price!"
I don't see why/what/how/...... this expression is used when asking a question or making an exclamation about something which surprises you.
"I don't see how those people can walk on their hands for so long! they must be really strong!"
Why on Earth....! この表現は、質問文に驚きなどを強調して表現するときに使われます。

An easy way to express this thought is by saying, "I don't understand why that is so popular."

To get = to understand
To say that people love something is another way of expressing that it is very popular.
"I don't get why people love Star Wars so much."
Hype (noun) = advertising, promotion, marketing
Hype (verb) = advertise, promote; excite someone

このようにシンプルに言えば良いでしょう。

When you want to express you not understanding of something being popular, you should say it directly with no special change. Both of the examples can be used for any situation, although, I prefer the first one because it's not as casual as the second one.

*What's - What is
*Hype -extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion.
Example -"his first album hit the stores amid a storm of hype"
B) I don't understand why it's so popular .
*Don't - Do not
*Understand -perceive the intended meaning of (words, a language, or a speaker).
Example -"he didn't understand a word I said"
*Popular -liked or admired
Example -"she was one of the most popular girls in the school"
