We use classifiers all the time, so it's best to learn them as a beginner.
Counter words are used constantly, so it's best to learn about them from the beginning.

類別詞と助数詞は同じものでしょう。日本語を勉強するテキストで「counter words」の方がよく使われていると思いますが、「classifier」という表現もあります。
