"So...How does it work?"
"Where do I ~~~?"
Where do I get that?
Where do I pay for this?
It's my first time here. Do you have any recommendations?
These three are simple ways to ask the waiter/waitress for help. It is never wrong to ask them for their opinion. That way you learn the right way and most likely will get a tasty recommendation. Remember when using one of these phrases/questions, to make sure that you mention to them what you like and what you don't like. That way they can have a better feel of what you would like.
I don't know what to order, do you have any suggestions?
I've never done this before, can you help me?
May I please have some assistance? I'm not sure what I have to do.
If its your first time going to a store/restaurant, you may not know how to place an order. In that case the waiter/waitress can help you. You can ask them any one of the above questions to let them know that you need some help. You can ask for their recommendations or any special dishes of the night. Most restaurants will have a menu that you can ask to see:-
"May I see the menu?"
Once you have the menu, you can ask the waiter/waitress about the different dishes and then make your choice.
"May I see the menu?"(メニューを見せていただけますか?)
You may just ask: "How does one place an order here?"
Hopefully, the person you ask will be able to talk you through the process of placing an order.
Alternatively, you could just pick up, or point to the item that you would like to purchase and say: "I'd like one of those please!"
"How does one place an order here?"
"I'd like one of those please!"
Excuse me can you help me? I don't know what the procedure is here?
I am unsure as to what to do next...(This is all new to me!)
I am not sure "what I am after"...can you tell me what is on offer?
We may find ourselves in a strange or new location that is unfamiliar to us...
DON'T PANIC ;-)
Staff are only too glad to help a potential customer "get their order in"
Example:
Can you guide me through the menu?" or show me what is on offer?
Can you guide me through the menu?"
show me what is on offer?
The first two sentences are phrases/statements we can make to show our uncertainty about what we want to eat or what we want to order. We can also use the phrase, "can you help me pick," to ask the waiter/waitress to help us pick the best option for us.
