仔犬はpup /puppy 仔猫はkitten/kitty です。
英語には幼獣（こども）と成獣（大人）オス、メスで呼び名が】違う動物が多いです。動物好きの子どもたちは小さい頃から絵本でもこれをしっかり覚えるので、私たちも動物好きなら覚えておいた方が良いかもしれません。
犬だけでなく、犬科（オオカミもキツネもハイエナもリカオンも）の子どもはほとんどpupです。あと、アザラシ、ラッコなどの海の獣の子もpupです。
kittenはほぼ家猫の子だけで、野生の猫の子はcubと言うことが多いようです。
