これはかなり直訳なんですが、言います。
Beats meの場合は頑張ったのに敗れました。理解したかったことに敗れました。

"Beats me," can be used if you tried to understand but failed.
"I can't work out the math," is a similar expression. In this case, math is used as a metaphor and can be used in any context.
"I can't relate," is when you cannot sympathize. In this case, you are saying you cannot agree or that you are not convinced.
