恋人って英語でなんて言うの？

The most common word to use for the younger generation would be boyfriend or girlfriend. "He asked me to be his girlfriend". For the older generation and more serious or longer relationships, the word partner is more commonly used. Partner seems more serious for people who live together and have been together for many years but are not married.

Partner is the most common and proper way to describe this type of relationships. For example a "sexual partner" or a "romantic partner". Mainly because people that like to have partners and not mary have commitment issues. Therefore by using the word "partner" it creates a sense of non-commitment. The word "lover" is mainly used to describe a person that has a romantic/sexual relationship with someone who is legally married with someone else. Boyfriend/Girlfriend used to mean that you had a relatinoship with someone but it was not sexual it was more of a romantic, getting to know the person type of relationship. Nowadays boyfriend/girlfriend is basically describing a combination of a "sexual partner" and a "romantic partner".

Generally if someone in a relationship decides to start another relationship at the same time, then the third party may be described as ' a lover.' "Henry is unhappy in his marriage and has taken a lover." This situation may also be described in a rather detached way as 'a romantic distraction' from the marriage or relationship. Because the identity of the lover is unknown to most people, he or she may be described as, for example, 'the other woman.' "Who is the other woman."

My favorite way of referring to someone that you're dating is to use "Significant Other." I like this because it's gender neutral and works really well if you don't know the official status of the relationship. You can use it if the couple is very serious, perhaps engaged, and you can also use it if the couple is just starting out and may not last, or perhaps they aren't even exclusive yet. However, it's a bit long, so sometimes people will use "S.O." instead. You can say, "How's your S.O. doing? I haven't seen him in a while." Or, "We're having a big party so you can bring your significant other, if you have one." Another useful term for someone you have a sexual relationship with, but not a romantic relationship, would be "Friends with Benefits." You could say, "Paul and I are both attracted to each other, but we're not a good fit personality-wise. So we decided to try being friends with benefits."

example "i would like to introduce you to my boyfriend/girlfriend". or "this is my other half". or I would like you to meet my partner". more informally words like sweetheart or beloved can be used, these are more emotive jovial words that can used.

In informal English My better half or My other half are both terms that are used to mean your girlfriend or boyfriend. These informal terms tells people that it is a serious relationship. The love of my life is also an informal term. It can be used to describe a man or woman and it is used when you are confident that you love the person concerned and are not dating any others.

When referring to one who is not your marriage mate but yet not just anyone, "significant other" is what is said to designate someone you are close to that is neither; an individual who you aren't married to but yet stands out and whom you are close to. Ex. "Oh, is this your significant other?"
