ご自宅用ですが、それともプレゼント用ですか？
"someone else"は「あなた（お客様）以外の誰か」という意味で使えます。
丁寧に伺うために凝った文を使った方が良いと考えるかもしれませんが端的に聞いた方が良いです。
Are you buying this for yourself or as a gift for someone?
If you someone if the item they are buying is for them, they will probably say either 'yes it is for me' or 'no it is a gift'.
The same applie if you ask them whether it is a gift or not.
They shoud say 'No, it's for me' or ' yes it's a gift'.
The last question is the most clear way to ask this.
購入した商品が自宅用か聞いた場合には、「yes it is for me（はい、自宅用です）」「no it is a gift'（いいえ、プレゼント用です）」と答えるでしでしょう。
プレゼント用かどうか聞いた場合には、「No, it's for me（いいえ、自宅用です）」もしくは、「 yes it's a gift（はい。プレゼン用です）」と答えるでしょうか。
最後の文は一番わかりやすい質問です。

アメリカではプレゼントをお店が包んでくれるサービスは少ないので、このように聞いてyes/noの回答を待つのが自然だと思います。
そのようなサービスがあるという前提がなければ「なんでわざわざそんなこと答えないといけないんだ？」と思う可能性もあるかもしれません。

You can simply ask them if it is a gift or a present.
"Are you shopping for yourself today?" asks the customer if they are looking to by something for themselves. This will allow them to tell you if they are or if it is for someone else.
シンプルに if it is a gift or a present.（それは贈り物か、プレゼントか）
と聞くことが出来ます。

'Who' is a question word (it introduces a question). WHO is only used when referring to people.
'this' in the context refers to the item that you are purchasing.
