  • We can take personal holidays but it's hard to take too many at once.

  • I can take paid holidays if I want to but people don't usually take many days all at once.

  • It is not common to use all your paid vacation days at once.

  • It is not easy to take many days off consecutively.

Explaining that you have paid vacation, but that you can not use them all at once can be expressed in many different ways. You can explain that it is not common to use them all at once. Or you can say that taking many days off consecutively - or one after the next - is very difficult to get approved in Japan. Your vacation days need to be taken throughout the year, spread out.

  • We do get paid holiday in Japan, but it is difficult to get a large chunk of time off. Usually we get a couple of days here and there.

This answer is a great way of explaining to someone that it is hard to get an extended period of time off work in Japan. 'Large chunk' refers to a period of time, maybe a week, or two weeks. And when something happens 'here and there' it means every now and again in a calendar or work year.

  • We're allowed to take paid leave but it's hard to take a lot at once.

If someone asks: "How many days can you take off of work with paid leave in Japan?" the above example sentence would be a very appropriate one. Hard = difficult.
"How many days can you take off of work with paid leave in Japan?"(日本では有給で何日休めるの?) Hard = difficult(難しい)

  • It's not easy to use your annual leave days.

  • It is difficult to use up all your annual paid leave days.

  • It's a bit troublesome to request to use your annual leave days.

"It's not easy to use your annual leave days." annual leave is the total amount of paid vacation days allocated to an employee every year and this implies that it is a bit difficult to make use of them. "It is difficult to use up all your annual paid leave days." This means you cannot use all of your paid vacation days allocated to you within the year, some will remain unused. "It's a bit troublesome to request to use your annual leave days." this means that it is uncomfortable or unpleasant to request to use your paid vacation days could be maybe because you may be viewed as someone who doesn't like working.
"It's not easy to use your annual leave days."(有給休暇を使うのは簡単ではない) "annual leave"(年次休暇)とは、毎年社員に与えられる有給休暇を言います。 "It is difficult to use up all your annual paid leave days."(有給休暇をすべて使い切るのは難しい) これは「有給休暇をすべて使い切るのは難しい」という意味です。 "It's a bit troublesome to request to use your annual leave days."

  • It's hard to take a long vacation in Japan.

  • It's hard to get a lot of time off in Japan.

  • It's hard to get the boss to agree to a long period off in Japan.

Yes! Everybody gets paid leave, but a lot of time it's difficult to plan because the boss is always afraid there will be some sort of crisis. So, when you tell him that you want to take some vacation time, he will frown and act like you are making a very unreasonable request! This is not just a Japanese problem -- I think people have this difficulty all over the world!

  • Paid leave is provided in Japan but it isn't easy to get many consecutive days off.

  • It is hard to get paid leave for many days in Japan.

  • I am allowed paid leave but only for a specific amount of time.

It is hard to get paid leave for many days in Japan. To explain this, use the sentences above. Different countries have different rules when it comes to paid leave. Consecutive: in a row, following each other "I need to take time off, I am exhausted and can no longer focus, I wonder if I can get paid leave for a week, it might be a little tricky here in Japan."
Consecutive: 連続して、続けざまに "I need to take time off, I am exhausted and can no longer focus, I wonder if I can get paid leave for a week, it might be a little tricky here in Japan."
