劇やお芝居のことはplayと言います。
劇場のことをtheater (theatre)と言うので、
go to a theaterで、劇/芝居を観に行くという意味を表します。
私は劇/芝居/舞台を観に行くのが好きです。
I like going to theaters (theatres) to watch plays.

theatreはイギリス英語やオーストラリア英語で書いていますが、アメリカ英語でtheaterで書いています。
「彼女は劇に出ていた。」
