文脈はちょっと不明ですが、私は思い込んだのは、イベントがあって、でも相手が参加したい時期はイベントの前か後ですね。
「開催する」は一般的に言うと「hold (an event)」ですが、他の言い方もあります。
「the event is going on」= イベントが起こっている
「during the event」= イベントが続いている間
でも「参加」のことは不明です。どんなイベント？相手は、観客としてか、上演者としてか参加したがっているですか？
観客だったら「attend the event」「come to the event」「visit the event」とかは言えます。
上演者だったら「appear at the event」「perform at the event」とかは言えます。
