端は英語で色々な言い方がありますが、この場合、edgeが一番いいと思っております。
例：Please line-up the plates at the edge of the table. テーブルの端にお皿を並べてください。
例：犬がもう寝ていたので、私はベッドの端で寝ちゃった。The dog was already asleep, so I slept on the edge of the bed.

どちらも「テーブルの端にお皿を並べてくれますか？」という聞き方です。
1) Can you line up the plates along the outside of the table?
line up で「並べる」
along the outside of the table はテーブルの一辺に沿ってお皿を並べる感じです。
along the edge of the table と言っても同じ意味になります。
2) Could you please put the plates at the end of the table?
at the end of the table と言うと、「テーブルの端」という意味になり、また長方形のテーブルなら短い辺の方を端と言うことが多いです。
