日本の元旦はイギリスのクリスマスと言った感じですね。
家族で過ごすと言いたい場合は spend time with the family と言う
表現が良いです。

New Year's Day = 元旦
new year = 新年
day = 日
spend time with ... = 〜と時間を過ごす
「元旦」つまり「お正月」は New Year’s Day と言います。
ただ「元旦」は正確には元日の朝を指すのでその場合は New Year’s morning というのがいいでしょう。
