Language is a recent development in human evolutionary history. People around 30,000 years ago were just like the people we see on buses and trains when we go to work in the morning -- except they didn't speak to one another (maybe it's not all that different actually) because they hadn't tapped into the language feature of the cosmos. The strange thing about language is that everyone is using it while have no idea what it actually is. 'Linguistic' comes from the Latin root word 'lingua', which means 'tongue.'
