気象庁のウェブサイトで調べてみましたが、「大型の台風」に対応する英語については記述がありませんでした。
「新和英大辞典」という辞書が手元にあるのですが、こちらでは
大型の台風＝a major typhoon
超大型の台風＝a super typhoon
としています。
大型の台風なのか超大型の台風なのかは、「風速15メートル以上の強風域の半径」で決まるようです。
「a large typhoon」としても意味は十分に伝わります。

ニュアンスがカジュアルなので、「big」を使っていいです。

気象情報だと、[台風](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/33919/)でもグレードがつけられるので、「Catergory 5 typhoon」とか言います。

This can be explained in a variety of ways.
To describe the typhoon you could use the words big, huge, large, etc.
To make it more interesting instead of coming you could say approaching, headed our way, etc
When talking about a "big typhoon" you can use synonyms that will have a similar or the same meaning to describe it like: "a huge typhoon", "a dangerous typhoon", or "a giant typhoon". "Huge, giant, large" all have the same meaning as "big".
「大きな台風（big typhoon）」について言う場合は、次のような類似の表現が使えます。

There are many ways to say that a storm is coming. You can say that there is a storm on the front, or on the horizon. You can also say that we are not in a safe place, or we are in harm's way. There is a storm looming, would be a more formal way to say it.
