"successor" ←これは「後継者」の直訳です。英語でお金持ちや貴族以外の家族は"successor"とあんまり言いません。
下記の例文の「家」の英訳は：
・"house" ←これの普通の意味は「家屋」ですが、場合によって「家庭・家族・部族・王室」になります。
・"lineage" ←これはいつも「家族の系統」のことです。
・"family line" ←これもいつも「家族の系統」のことです。
「これは家の後継者を決める話です。」の例文：
・"This story is about deciding the successor of a house."
・"This story is about deciding the successor of a lineage."

後継者は一般的に successor と言います。
例えば「家の後継者を決める話」は A discussion to decide on the successor of the family と言います。
