日本語に直訳すると「相手のほうが経験があるので、勝てなくてもこれは若いほうの選手に経験を積むいい機会」
「格上」の単語は英語にはないと思うので普通は"more experienced" （もっと経験がある）は "stronger"（もっと強い） と言います。
「成長する」は英語で"grow"と翻訳するんだけど、それはちょっと「体が成長する」意味もあるので"gain experience"(経験を積む)のほうがナチュラルな言い方です。
