These phrases all let the other person know that you thought their food was delicious and you are grateful for it.
Thanks for dinner can be changed to thanks for breakfast or lunch, depending on the time of day you ate the meal. In the UK, we use both dinner and tea to mean the evening meal. (Tea is also the hot drink made with tea leaves and hot water - so you could have a cup of tea with your tea/dinner).
It is always important to thank someone for doing something. Even if it is your own family. It shows your appreciation of what somebody has done for us. We sometimes get so used to something that if it weren't there, we wouldn't survive. For example, our parents. If we are children and our parents suddenly disappeared, we wouldn't function without them. They are the ones who cook the meals and pay the bills.
These sentences both convey a meaning of appreciation for cooking a delicious meal. We should always thank our parents. We take them for granted when we are children.
Your cooking is very tasty. I would like the recipe.
When you thank somebody for the 'meal' you can be more specific. In English we would say 'breakfast' for a morning meal - because we are essentially fasting(not eating) through the night and in the morning we 'break the fast'.
'Lunch' is a midday meal and then 'tea/dinner/supper' for an evening meal.
Food that comes in between meals is referred to as a 'snack'.
You can also make the person who has cooked feel good by asking them whether you can have the recipe, to cook the meal for yourself because you enjoyed it so much.
All three of the above statements are phrases used to say thank you and to show how grateful you are for the wonderful food that was prepared and given to you.
