趣旨を理解するって英語でなんて言うの？

「趣旨を理解する」は、

"to understand the point"

と言うことも出来ます。

"point"は、「要点・論点」という意味です。

「質問の趣旨を理解するのに時間がかかる。」は、

"It takes me awhile to understand the point in question."

a while ちょっと長い時間、長い間　←ちなみに　’少しの間’と言いたい時は、a little while
to understand　理解するために
what you asked for.　あなたが尋ねたことを　
’あなたが尋ねたことを理解するのに時間がかかった’　という表現で、趣旨を理解するのに時間がかかるという意味合いを含めることができると思います

2)は、’質問を理解するのに時間がかかります’　という表現です

trouble+～ing＝「～するのに苦労する」
grasp～＝「～をつかむ」
gist＝「要点」
grasp the gist of the question ＝「質問の要点をつかむ」
the question I’m asked＝「自分が聞かれた質問」

I sometimes have trouble grasping the gist of the question I’m asked.
「私は時々、聞かれた質問の要点をつかむのに苦労することがあります」
