by the end of today で「今日の終わりまでに」＝「今日中に」
「できれば」は if possible「可能なら」を使って言えます。
例：
Can you complete it by the end of today if possible?
「できれば今日中に完成できますか？」
Do you think you can possibly finish it today?
「今日中に仕上げれますか？」
possible finish it today 「なんとかして今日それを仕上げる」という意味なので、「今日中に仕上げる」というニュアンスになりますね。
