「詳しく説明する」は
explain ... in detail
explain ... thoroughly
のように言えます。
in detail は「詳細に・詳しく」
thoroughly は「じっくり・とことん」という意味です。
例：
I try to explain in detail what we do at work so that new employees can understand how things work.
「新入社員が(仕事が）どのように機能するかを理解できるよう、職場での仕事を詳しく説明するようにしています。」
how things work で「（物事が）どのように機能するか」＊この場合だと職場で仕事がどのように行われているか、ですね。
I try to explain as much as I can about our job so the new staff can get a better feel for things.
「新入社員が仕事に対する感覚をもっとつかめるよう、できるだけ説明するようにしています。」
get a better feel for ... で「…に関する感覚がよりつかめる」という意味です。
