「しばらく」は英語で for a while や for a long time と言います。long time は「長い時間、長い間」と直訳します。
to continue は 「続く」と言う意味なので to continue for a while / to continue for a long time と言うと「しばらくの間続く、長い間続く」と言う意味になります。
こどもたちの兄弟喧嘩はしばらく続きました。
My children's fight went on for a while.
こどもたちは長い間喧嘩していた。
