「既読」は read と言います。
この場合は現在形の read ではないので、発音は「赤」という意味の red と同じ発音です。
例：
He has left me on read for a whole day now.
「既読になってからもう丸1日経った。」
It shows that he read my text but he hasn't responded to it yet.
「私の[メッセージ](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/36328/)は既読になっているのに、まだ彼から[返信](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/35189/)がない。」
He read my text 10 minutes ago but hasn't gotten back to me yet.
「彼は10分前に私のメッセージを読んだのに、まだ返信してくれない。」

最初の言い方は、Read Receipts は、既読と言う意味として使われていました。一番既読と言う意味としてネイティブに使われてる言い方なので、使いました。
最初の言い方では、Receipts は、相手に読んだがどうかが伝わるので、まるでreceipt みたいに相手に伝わると言う意味として使われています。
二つ目の言い方は、To send a message to the other person that tells them that you have looked at the message they sent は、あなたが相手が送った[メッセージ](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/36328/)を見たかどうか伝わると言う意味として使われていました。
二つ目の言い方では、that you have looked at the message they sent は、あなたが相手に[送った](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/73108/)メッセージを見たあるいはメッセージを既読したと言う意味として使われています。
