「〜している匂い」は
the smell of ...
the aroma of ...
を使って表現できます。
例：
The smell of the boiling beans from the kitchen came floating into the living room.
「豆を煮ている匂いがキッチンからリビングに漂ってきた。」
the smell of the boiling beans で「豆を煮ている匂い」
come floating into ... で「…に漂ってくる」
I was sitting in the living room watching TV and I could smell the boiling beans in the kitchen.
「リビングでテレビを見ていたら、キッチンで豆を煮ている匂いがしてきた。」
このように I could smell を使って「リビングにいても匂うことができる」＝「匂いがリビングに漂ってきた」というニュアンスを出すことができます。

「～している匂い」は英語では、日本語のように「〜している匂い」とそのまま名詞で言うよりも、
・smell + 人/物 + 動詞ing（〜している匂いがする）
・a smell of + 名詞 + 動詞ing（〜している匂い）
という形で表現するのが自然です。
