two by one is one, two by two is four, two by three is six
こう言う風に言えます：
two ones are two ＝ にいちがに （二つの１が２になる）
two twos are four ＝ 同じように 2x2＝４
等
＊１が前の掛け算だけは "is" を使わなければなりません。
one two is two, one three is three, one four is four, ...
(1x1=1, 1x2=2, 1x3=3, 1x4=4, ...)
でも、2x1, 3x1 などは "are" の方が正しいです。
2x2 は "times" の代わりに "by" も言えます。
2x2が "two by two", 2x3が "two by three" など…
この際に "is" の方が正しいです。"are" と言いません。もちろん、"equals" と言うのはいけます。
two by one is one, two by two is four, two by three is six...
