The staff made a mistake so we were skipped. Two groups went before us!
店員は “staff” でも “employee” でも使います。 “clerk” もありますが、レストランの場合は使いません。レストランの店員が「組」の話をしていると “party” と言います。例えば “How many are in your party?” （何名様でしょうか？）とか “Now seating Mr. Smith, party of five!” （スミスさんの５人のグループご案内です！）など。しかし「２組に先に越された！」と友達などに話していると “party” ではなくて、 “group” とか家族でしたら “family” と言った方が自然です。
They seated two groups ahead of me even though I was at the restaurant first because one of the staff made a mistake.
この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。
ーThey seated two groups ahead of me even though I was at the restaurant first because one of the staff made a mistake.
「私の方が先にレストランに来たのに、店員のミスで私より先に２組が案内されたんだよ」
to seat someone で「人を席に案内する」
