fuel は「[燃料](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/59116/)」という意味の名詞と「燃料を入れる」という意味の動詞があります。fuel a car で「車に燃料を入れる」になります。
日常会話ではカジュアルに get gas や get fuel と言うことが多いです。
例：
I'm going to stop by the gas station to get some fuel.

他のアンカーの方々が回答されていない表現が、もう１つありますので紹介させていただきますね。
運転席のパネルの燃料ゲージに F と E と表記されているのをご存知でしょうか？ F は Full（[満タン](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/91055/)）、E は Empty（空）です。 Full = fill up（～で[満たす](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/55479/)）ですので満タンにしたい場合は fill up the gas.と表現します。
I need to go (and) get some fuel. というと「燃料を調達しにいかないといけない」という意味で、車に限らず、腹ペコの時にも使えます（笑）
カナダではセルフ（Self Service）もあれば有人（Full Service）の所もあります。 やはりセルフの方が1リッター辺り１０セントほど安いです。 ただ、日本のように「レギュラーとハイオク・[軽油](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/66320/)」ではなく、Regular unleaded・Premium unleaded・Dieselという分けられ方が一般的です。 たまに Midgrade（レギュラーとプレミアムの中間）ってのがありますが、どうなんでしょう・・・。 また逆にSupremeというのやらSuperとか表示していたりします。 Civicに乗っていた私にとっては、Midgrade以上は余り無縁かとずっとRegularを Self Service で half full で入れてました（笑） 街中ではこれで十分です。
ただ、ロッキー山脈越えになると話が少し変わってきます。 100km以上ガソリンスタンド（英語ではgas station）がない事もあります。 高速道路（Freeway）の脇に、 "the last gas before entering Rocky Mountain National Park" (ロッキー山脈国立公園に入る前の最後のガソリンスタンドです）や "Make sure you fill up on gas before you enter"（入る前に必ずガソリンを満タンにしましょう）という看板が目に飛び込んできます。 これを一回怠って、危うくガス欠になりかけるところでした・・・。

Within this kind of example, we would mainly use the verb, "to fuel," as this is the primary way to talk about the action of filling the car with gas.
However we can also use the verb, "to put," if we talk about what we are putting inside of the car which in this case would be, "gas."
「車にガソリンを入れる」と言う場合、動詞の "to fuel" が使われることが多いです。

Filling up my car. - When I need to get gas for my car I can say I need to fill it up.
Buying petrol. - In the UK we tend to say petrol rather than gas or gasoline. We also have cars which use diesel fuel in the UK, so you may hear, 'buying diesel'.
Fuelling a vehicle. - Another simple sentence here. Vehicle could refer to a car, a motorbike or a number of other automobiles.

Different countries have different ways of doing things. Many countries do rely on a petrol attendant to help to put in fuel. Different countries also have different names for fuel - i.e. gasoline/fuel/petrol/gas
There are many ways of asking petrol attendants to put in fuel. Generally the operative phrasal verb is 'put in', but 'fill up' can also be used. However, this all depends on which country you are in.
(amount of money) of (fuel you want) = "$20 of 91"
or casual way = "Full her up please."
Some petrol stations have attendants operating the petrol pumps and other places are self service. Remember to state the fuel that your car needs for example = unleaded 91, unleaded 95, diesel etc. You can also drop the use of "unleaded" and just say the number.
I often just ask for an amount and I would say it like this = "Can I get $35 of 95 please."

In Ireland, it is normal to fill up the petrol tank by yourself. We don't have attendants that do it for us. Then you must go inside to the cashier and he or she will ask you if you bought petrol and then you pay.

If you would like to know what the act of putting gasoline in your car is casually/usually called, it is called the act of "pumping gas" or "getting gas". Some people even say i need to "pump some petrol". It is also very common in most countries for you to fill your own gas at the gas station.
「ガソリンを入れる」のカジュアルな言い方／一般的な言い方を知りたいということなら、これは "pumping gas" や "getting gas" と言えます。

In all honesty, the first two are the ones I heard the most, but the third one just came to mind and I liked the sound of it. Also, in England we fill it ourselves, however, in other countries, Turkey, for instance, they have people filling the cars for them.

The verb to 'refill' used in all three statements means to fill any container with a liquid again.It often happens that when you are travelling to a distant place, your car runs out of fuel.Whenever this happens, you need to stop at the next petrol station and 'refill' the petrol/gas tank..If you don't do that, your car is definitely going to 'grind to a halt' at any minute.In South Africa, petrol attendants will always attend to you.You do not serve yourself at all.The phrase 'grind to a halt' used in the second statement, means 'coming to a standstill' or a 'stop'.
So, you may say:

動詞の 'refill' は上の三つの例すべてに使われていますね。これは「（入れ物）に（液体）を入れる」という意味です。
遠くの目的地まで行くときには、途中でガソリンがなくなってしまうことがありますね。こんなときは、ガソリンスタンドで止めて給油をしなければなりません。これをしないと車はエンストを起こしてしまいます。
南アフリカでは客が自分でガソリンを入れることはありません。必ず店員がやってくれます。
二つ目の例にある 'grind to a halt' は「動かなくなる／停止する」という意味です。
次のように言えます。
