「なぜそう聞いたのかというと」の訳は、「The reason I asked, is because ○○.」という
表現でもよいでしょう。
「あなたの国は赤道に近い」は 「Your country is located close to the equator.」です。「located」は「存在している、位置している」という表現に使えます。
