「今くらい〜できるようになるまで」の部分をどう英語で表現するのがいいのか教えてほしいです。

二つ表現してみました。
今話してるように　like the way I do now
原形比較級を使って、as well as I do now
～するのに長い時間がかかる　it takes me a long time to ~
不定詞 to の後に助動詞 can は使えないので、be able to ~

It took me a long time to be able to speak English like the way I do now.
It took me a long time to be able to speak English as well as I do now.

この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。

ーIt took me forever to get to the point where I can speak English the way I do now.
「今くらい英語が話せるようになるのに、すごく時間がかかった」
to get to the point where I can ... the way I do now で「今くらい…できるようになる」と表現できます。
