「もう少しで、できそうだったが、結局、ダメだった」ということを英語で表現したいときは、almost「〜しそうだった」 や be close to「〜に近い」を使って言うことが出来ます。
I almost achieved it.
「私は、それをもう少しで達成しそうだった」
It was close to achieve it.
「それを達成するまでに、もう少しだった」

It nearly came to fruition, but ultimately didn't.
「達成しそうでした」や「もう少しで、できそうだったが、結局、ダメだった」という表現を英語で述べると "It nearly came to fruition, but ultimately didn't." となります。
この表現では、「It」は言っている事項を指し、「nearly came to fruition」は「達成寸前だった」や「もう少しで成功するところだった」という意味になります。しかし、「but ultimately didn't」は「しかし、結局はできなかった」という結果を示しています。
このフレーズは、ある目標や計画が最終的に遂行されなかったとき、特にその目標がほとんど達成されていたにもかかわらず、最後に何かが起こったときによく使用されます。
