この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。
ーLet's not talk about the past this time.
「今回は過去の話をしないようにしよう」
let's not ... で「…しないようにしよう」と言ます。
ーWhy don't we talk about what's happening in our lives now and talk about the future as well?
「今私たちの人生で起こっていることや、将来のことについて話さない？」
Why don't we ...? で「…しませんか？」

過去の話をする、は英語でto talk about the pastで表現できますね。
でもつい昔話、という意味は英語で
大学の話や数年前の話で表現することが多いですね。例えばto talk about collegeやto talk about things that happened several years agoになります。
