この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。

to end up not ~ing で「〜することにはならない」

to charge too much で「（支払い・代金を）請求しすぎる」

この表現を否定形で使うと「結果的に〜せずに済んだ」というニュアンスを上手く出せます。

・overdrink「飲みすぎる」
drink too much と同じ意味ですが、一語でスッキリ表現できます。
