この場合、in the hospital と言い、in hospital という言い方はしません。
入院中であることを言うなら、次のような言い方ができます。
ーMy father is in the hospital.
「父は入院中です」
ーMy father has been hospitalized with an illness.
「父は病気で入院しています」
ーMy father is sick in the hospital.
「父は病気で入院しています」
もしただ単に病院にいることを言いたいなら、次のように言います。
ーMy father is at the hospital getting his leg x-rayed.
「父は足のレントゲンを撮るのに病院にいます」
