私はカナダ人と結婚しましたが、夫婦別姓ですし、北アメリカやヨーロッパではそれほどめずらしいことではありません。ハイフンで両方の名字を繋げて使用(hyphenated last name)する人もいます（私ならTomoko Goto-Murdockです）。ただし、子供がいるカップルの場合、どちらの名字を子供が名乗るかで問題になる為、夫の名字に合わせる女性がいることも確かです。

Maiden nameは、結婚前の女性の苗字、To tie the knotは、結婚する、という意味です。The nuptials とは、結婚式にまつわる慣習や儀式全般を表します。Second nameは苗字のことです。
Both of these express that you do not want to give up/ change your last name when you get married.
It is common for woman to use a hyphen(-) to put the two last names together or to keep their surname but also add their partners names to theirs.
Most people changes their last names and takes their husband's surname or they make their last name, their middle name.
