「故郷」は hometown、「寒い」は cold 、これはシンプルですね。
「雪が積もっている」は、
the ground is covered with snow （地面が雪で覆われている）
there is snow everywhere（どこもかしこも雪だらけ）
のように説明できます。
be covered with ...で「…で覆われている」という表現です。
また、「季節」というと、season という単語を使いたくなりますが、英語では「四季」というとき以外、seasonを使うことは実はあまりありません。
this season などとは言わずに、summer や winter と具体的に言います。
もし、「冬の間ずっと」ではなく、「毎年、この期間」くらいのニュアンスなら、this time of year が一番しっくり当てはまると思いますよ。
