これは人ごみに限らず、例えば家を借りる時に「狭いところは嫌だな」と言った意味などでも使えます。
例文
「I avoid crowded places, because it makes me feel claustrophobic」
（私は混雑した場所を避けます、それが閉所恐怖症のような感じを与えるからです）
「I need a lot of space to think and relax」
（考えたりリラックスするのに、私はたくさんのスペースが必要です）
I don't like crowds.
→人混み苦手。
I hate crowds.
→人混み嫌い。
ご存じかもしれませんが、
hate のほうが do not like ～ よりも意味が強いです。
例）
"No, I hate crowds. I’m staying home to watch it on TV."

「人が多いところは嫌い」という場合に、
"Crowded places make me want to scream."
と表現することも出来ます。
"crowded"は、形容詞で「込み合った」
"make"は、使役動詞で「～させる」
"scream"は、動詞で「（苦痛などのために）悲鳴をあげる」
という意味です。私自身もショッピングモールなどの人混みが苦手なので、この表現をよく使います。
