  • I liked it a long time ago.

  • I used to like it.

例えば「昔は紫が好きだったけど今は黄色が好き」= "I used to like violet, but now I prefer yellow." とか "I liked violet a long time ago, but now I like yellow." とか "I liked violet way back when, but now I prefer yellow."

  • I used to love purple but now my favourite colour is yellow.

  • Purple used to be my favourite but now I prefer yellow.

I used to love purple but now my favourite colour is yellow. Used to – before. Now – talking about present, your favourite colour is yellow. You can switch the sentence around. “My favourite colour is yellow but it used to purple”. Purple used to be my favourite but now I prefer yellow. Used to – in the past. Now you prefer yellow. Prefer is the one you like/love better. Yellow has taken your preference so now it replaces purple as your favourite colour. “I prefer chocolate to candy”, “I prefer to exercise outside instead of at the gym”. (Which one you like better).
"I used to love purple but now my favourite colour is yellow. Used to –以前に/は Now ― 今について話します。 今、あなたの好きな色は黄色です。 文章の位置を替えることができます。 “My favourite colour is yellow but it used to purple”. Purple used to be my favourite but now I prefer yellow. Used to –過去には。 今は黄色が好きです。 Preferは ある物/人よりもこちらを好むという表現で、 黄色が紫よりあなたの好む色だという意味になります。 “I prefer chocolate to candy”(私はキャンディーよりチョコレートを好む), “I prefer to exercise outside instead of at the gym”(私はジムではなく外で運動することを好む). “Which one you like better”.  (あなたはどちらがより好きですか。)"

  • Purple used to be my favorite color but I Yellow is my new favorite.

  • Back in the day I was inlove with purple but I love yellow so much more now.

  • Purple is just not doing it for me anymore. Yellow is my new color.

>Purple used to be my favorite color but I Yellow is my new favorite. *Used to be is saying that in the past it was your favorite. >Back in the day I was inlove with purple but I love yellow so much more now. *Back in the day is in the past. >Purple is just not doing it for me anymore. Yellow is my new color. *Not doing it for me means that you are not attracted to purple anymore.
Purple used to be my favorite color but I Yellow is my new favorite. Back in the day I was inlove with purple but I love yellow so much more now. 「Back in the day」は過去を意味します。 Purple is just not doing it for me anymore. Yellow is my new color. 「Not doing it for me」はもう紫を好きではないことを意味します。

  • I used to like purple, but now I prefer yellow

  • Purple used to be my favourite, but now it's yellow

  • Years ago, I loved purple, but these days it's yellow.

Used to = We use this form when we want to talk about an habitual activity in the past. "I used to travel to work every day by train and bus." These days = at present. "I saw John in the shopping centre. His skin looked yellow and he was wobbling about all over the pavement!" "Yes, unfortunately, I think he's drinking far too much these days"
I used to travel to work every day by train and bus." I saw John in the shopping centre. His skin looked yellow and he was wobbling about all over the pavement!" "Yes, unfortunately, I think he's drinking far too much these days" (ああ、残念だけど、最近彼はずいぶん飲み過ぎているようだよ)

  • I used to like purple, but now I like yellow.

過去のことは (used to… Used toの文は、昔は… I used to like purple, but I prefer yellow. I used to like purple, but I like yellow better now.

  • I used to like it.

  • I used to like it a long time ago.

  • A long time ago, I liked ____ but now I like ___.

We mostly would use the phrase, "used to like," to express that it is something we used to do/like but now it is no longer the case. We can also include the phrase, "a long time ago." In some cases we don't need, "used to," and can just use the verb in the past tense.
