The most common word used to describe this situation is shaking. When the ground shakes it is usually due to earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.
The word tremor is also used to describe the vibrations caused by an earthquake. That's why the word "trembling" is also used to describe how the ground moves back and forth or tremors.
For example: The ground is trembling.
I can feel the ground shaking.
That tremor caused the ground to shake.
That tremor caused the ground to tremble.
この状況を表す最も一般的な単語は「shake（揺れる）」です。
「shake」が地面の揺れを表す場合、それは普通地震とか噴火によるものです。
「tremor」も、地震による揺れを表す場合に使われます。「tremble」が地面が揺れることを表す時に使われるのは、そのためです。

The two sentences you see provided above are excellent ways to express to your listener the feeling of the ground moving back and forth. In the first sentence you will notice the verb tremble and in the second sentence you will notice the word quiver. Although these words have different meanings, in these two sentences they both mean to shake.
The movement of something going back and forth can be referred to as "shaking" or "moving".
For example, you can say:
