There are two spellings. For US, we spell it "donut" and for the U.K., I believe they spell it like "doughnut." The pronunciation is the same, though.

There are also different versions around the world, with different shapes too! In Hungary they have something called a 'chimney cake' or 'Kürtöskalács'... so delicious covered in cinnamon and sugar. In Spain they have long sticks of dough friend and sprinkled with (you guessed it!) cinnamon and sugar. These are called 'churros'. The often come with chocolate dipping sauce....
