A euphemism for 'losing' is 'to be unlucky.' For example if two people are have a hundred metre sprint race together, one will win and one will lose. This is due to: natural ability, training, preparation, motivation and focus. 'Luck' is probably not a factor at all. however, the winner may console the loser by saying: "You were unlucky today."

You lost the game is used to show that it was lost in the past. You lose generally refers to an individual losing something. That was unlucky is a kind way to support someone after they have lost. It is generally down to skill, and someone else was more skilful on the day, but it kinder to say that someone was unlucky not have to have won/beaten the other player, or team.
You lost the gameという表現は、過去に[負けた](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/34294/)ことを表して使用されます。

If you lose something, it means that the opponent has won. If you are losing, it means that you have not lost yet, but it seems likely because you are behind. If you lost, it means that you have been beaten and the opponent has won.
you lose something(あなたの負け)は、相手が勝ったということです。

Lose is the opposite of win. A person that loses is called the loser. To have lost is the past tense of lose.

例えば: 「試合に負ける可能性が高い」 'There is a good chance we will lose this game.' 'The Yomiuri Giants were bitterly defeated by the Hanshin Tigers.'

例文: 「頑張ったのに試合に負けた」 →「I lost the match even though I tried hard」 「その人に負けたくない」 →「I don’t want to lose to him」 ご参考になれば幸いです。
