kind ofとbe likeの違いが分かりません。 Furoshiki is (like a) (kind of an) old bag. I was (like) (kind of) sleepy all day.

  • Furoshiki is like an old bag./I was sleepy all day.

  • Furoshiki is like a bag./I was like sleepy all day.

  • Furoshiki can be like a bag./I was tired all day.

I was like sleepyは「私ってば眠たかったわよ!」

  • A furoshiki is similar to an old bag / A furoshiki is, to a certain extent, a bag

  • I was quite sleepy all day / I was to some extent sleepy all day.

The differences between the two first statements are very clear. When you say "A furoshiki is like an old bag", you mean to say that a furoshiki is similar to an old bag. But, if you say "a furoshiki is a kind of bag", you mean to say that a furoshiki is to some extent, a bag. It is not similar to an old bag as was the case in the first statement. The differences between the second pair are as follows: When you say I was like sleepy all day, you are saying that you were quite sleepy all day. The adverb 'quite' in this context means 'absolutely' or 'completely'. But, if you say 'I was kind of sleepy all day', you are saying that you were, to some extent, sleepy all day. This means that you were not quite sleepy.
例:A furoshiki is similar to an old bag / A furoshiki is, to a certain extent, a bag 「風呂敷は古いカバンと似ています。」 I was quite sleepy all day / I was to some extent sleepy all day. A furoshiki is like an old bag"(風呂敷は古いカバンのようだ。)

  • like /kind of

Are you dating Kelly? Kind of. It was like I got carried away.

  • I felt like I was sick as a dog.

  • I've been kind of busy all this week.

"I felt like I was sick as a dog." In this case "like" is used to show similarities/ comparisons between 2 things. "I've been kind of busy all this week.", in this sentences "kind of" refers to your week being busy but not very busy. Can be used like "sort of" which refers to somewhere in the middle of something.
〔1〕 "I felt like I was sick as a dog."(とても気分が悪かった) この「like」は二つのものが似ていることを表します。 〔2〕 "I've been kind of busy all this week."(今週はずっと何だか忙しい) この文の「kind of」は、忙しいけどすごく忙しいわけではない、ことを表します。

  • A furosihki is like an old bag/ A furoshiki is a kind of bag.

  • I was like sleepy all day./ I was kind of sleepy all day.

A furosihki is like an old bag - This means a furoshiki is similar to an old bag A furoshiki is a kind of bag - This means a furoshiki is a type of or variety of bag So here, like = similar to (taken from the word 'alike') Kind of = type of or a variety of I was like sleepy all day. - This use of like is linguistically incorrect but is a fashionable way of speaking amongst young people. Here like is used to punctuate a sentence but has no meaning. This over use of like is associated with teenagers. I was kind of sleepy all day. - I was a bit sleepy all day So here, kind of = a bit/ a little bit
A furosihki is like an old bag -「風呂敷は昔のかばんのようなもの」という意味です。 A furoshiki is a kind of bag -「風呂敷はかばんの一種」という意味です。 I was like sleepy all day.(一日中(なんか)眠かった) 「like」のこの使い方は文法上正しくありませんが、若者の間ではやっています。 I was kind of sleepy all day. (I was a bit sleepy all day)」という意味です。

  • Kind of

  • Like

Kind of means you were a little bit. Like is more affirming, meaning that you were more than a little bit.
