A frustrating situation would be that your ATM card is not returned by the machine. This usually happens because of a faulty or out of date or cancelled card. Unfortunately in the UK, unless the cash machine is directly outside an open bank, all you can do is contact the card issuer directly yourself:
"The ATM failed to return my card."

If you want to explain that the ATM did not give you your card back a popular saying/phrase is 'The ATM ate my card!' you could also say 'The ATM kept my card!' or 'The ATM didn't return my card!' these would all explain what happened
The ATM ate my card!'（ATMが私のカードを食べた／ATMからカードが出てこない）は、ATMからカードが出てこなかったときによく使われる言い方です。
また、以下のように言うこともできます。
'The ATM kept my card!'（ATMからカードが出てこない）
'The ATM didn't return my card!'（ATMからカードが出てこない）
これらどの文でも、状況を伝えられると思います。
In order to explain that whilst you were using an ATM machine your card was taken from you and not returned, you could state "The ATM did not return my card to me". This lets whomever you are explaining this situation to, to understand that this unusual situation has happened.

このように言えば、起きたことを伝えられます。
Native speakers will say like this: “The ATM ate my card”.
There are lots of other ways to say it, but this one is the most accurate and most commonly used.
Here is an example on how to use this in a conversation:

B: That's a bummer! Of course I can.
ネイティブスピーカーなら次のように言います。
