PEAK is the top or highest point...and in this case describes the absolute hottest it got during the day...We might also use maximum temperature (like the weatherman/woman)

Peakという言葉は、”最高〜”や”一番高い〜”と表現するときに使うことができます。

We can call the highest temperature of the day simply as "a high". "Maximum" can be used to talk about the highest temperature during the day as it means the largest or highest or even the limit of something.
その日の最高気温をシンプルに、 "a high"ということができます。
"Maximum" は、一番高い、何かの限度という意味なので、その日の最高気温を伝えるときに使うことができます。
The phrase "today's sun is a scorcher" basically means that it is very hot. Alternatively, you can use the word "extremely"to describe the extent to which the weather is hot on the day. E.g. Today is extremely hot.
この "today's sun is a scorcher" と言うフレーズは、基本的にとっても暑いという意味になります。
代わりに、この "extremely"と言う言葉を使って暑い日の度合いを表現することが出来ます。
