filling station という言い方もアメリカでは一般的です。
これは「給油する」を ロイさんのおっしゃるように、fill~up と言うところからですね。
なお、給油するものは 「車」ですが、
fill her up. と、車を女性扱いにすることもあります。

In English the basic form we use to describe the need to fill our car with gasoline is " I need to go to the gas station to fill up my car". Informally we say " I need to get gas"or " I need to stop for gas" .
